During our research we found precedents for using active carbon in air and water filtration. This directed our focus to the relationship between carbon and the human body. We became inspired by the work of Yong Jieyu and his use of a carbon nanostructure to filter out hazardous materials from blood. With this information we built a network of advisors that included engineers, chemists and specifically a PHD professor at UCLA working with breast milk filtration. Once we discovered that there was in fact a way to filter petrochemicals out of breast milk we started to design the appropriate applications for filtering.
